APPROVAL OF A DONATION OF A BARREL TILE ROOF FOR BUILDING NO. 3 (COURTYARD STAGE BUILDING) AT SOUTHSIDE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLDescription Sutter Roofing Company would like to donate a barrel tile roof of the same type as was used on the existing historic building to be installed on the courtyard stage building. This would make all of the pitched roof areas of the historic building consistent and improve the general appearance of the school.

APPROVAL OF THE STUDENT AND FAMILY HANDBOOK FOR 2007-2008Description In order to consolidate District information in a user friendly manner, former publications of the Code of Student Conduct and the Parent Guide have been consolidated into one Student and Family Handbook. The handbook contains information related to District and School policies, procedures, rights and responsibilities. Specific areas included are: Academic and Curriculum Information; Attendance; Civility; Code of Conduct; Discipline Policies and Procedures; Extra Curricular Activities; Immunization and School Health; Parent and Student Rights and Responsibilities; Records; Registration and Enrollment; School Safety; Transportation; and withdrawal.
Recommendation That the Board approves the Student and Family Handbook for 2007-2008.
AGREEMENTS/CONTRACTS
12. APPROVAL OF CONTRACTED SERVICES WITH SUPPLEMENTAL INSTRUCTIONAL SERVICES, INC.Description Supplemental Services Inc. will provide tutoring (SES provider services) for students in small groups or individually; 1 hour at $45. per student in group and $70. per individual, not to exceed $949.00 per student .
Recommendation That the contract for the continuation of services with Supplemental Instructional Services, Inc. be approved as presented.
13. APPROVAL OF CONTRACTED SERVICES WITH BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB OF SARASOTA COUNTY FOR 21ST CCLCDescription Boys and Girls Club of Sarasota Inc. will extend programs for the summer school sessions, which include tutoring, mentoring, and enhancement activities as outlined in Grant details and Family Literacy component.
Recommendation That the School Board of Sarasota County approves the contract with the Boys and Girls Club of Sarasota, Inc. in the amount of $20,000.00, for summer sessions of 21st Century Community Learning Centers in North County.
14. AMENDMENT TO CONTRACT AGREEMENT WITH UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDADescription On May 1 the School Board approved a contract with the University of Florida Center for Building Better Communities to develop and implement a School Concurrency Management System. Revenues from a Department of Community Affairs (DCA) grant totally funds this contract, such that DCA acceptance of this contract is required. The original contract seemed to meet each party's concerns, but DCA and the university soon had issues regarding indemnification language. Those issues have now been resolved and the revised contract is attached.
Recommendation That the Board approves the amendment to contract agreement with University of Florida.

28. EXPULSION CASE NO. 06-338Description
The student listed in Expulsion Case No. 06-338, is in violation of an accepted Expulsion Settlement Agreement for alternative school placement. On April 11, 2006, the student listed in Expulsion Case No. 06-338, violated School Board Policy 5.32(2), Prohibition Against Use, Sale or Possession of Alcohol or Drugs. It is the recommendation of the Superintendent that the student be expelled from the Sarasota County Schools until May 30, 2007.
Recommendation That in accordance with provisions of Sections 1006.07(1)(a)(b), Florida Statutes and School Board Policy 5.34, the holding of a hearing having been waived by the student/parent, the recommendation as specified in Expulsion Case No. 06-338, to expel the student referenced therein from the Sarasota County Schools be approved effective immediately for the remainder of the 2006-2007 academic year.

33. APPROVAL TO AWARD BID #7143 FOR HOUSEHOLD AND SMALL COMMERCIAL APPLIANCESDescription A bid to provide 'Household and Small Commercial Appliances' was received from one vendor on April 12, 2007. The bid of Sears Contract Sales met the advertised specifications and was within budgetary guidelines. This bid is for a period of one year with the option to renew for two additional one-year periods. The funds for these purchases are contained in the capital and operating budgets of the individual cost centers.

The bid of FleetPride-Sarasota was the best low bid meeting the advertised specifications. The bid of Gary Yeoman's Ford was non-responsive to the one day delivery requirement. This bid is for a period of one year with the option to renew for two additional one-year periods. The funds for these purchases are contained in the operating budget allocated to the Transportation Services Department.

The scope shall include construction management services which consist of the following: [1] Assist selected architectural firm with the development of a campus-wide North County Technical Center master plan and a South County Technical Center master plan, [2] Develop cost estimated for plan scenarious and associated campus on both the north and south county sites, [3] Construct the Owner approved campus plan within designated time frame; multiple phases will be required and [4] Must provide RediCheck review services. On 5/1/2007 (Item #22), the Board authorized negotiations with the top-ranked firm. On 5/10/2007, the Director of Construction Services and two (2) members of the Professional Services Selection Committee (PSSC) met with a representative of Willis A. Smith Construction, Inc. to negotiate a contract for this project. This contract covers the preconstruction and bidding services portion only for this project. The contract for construction will be negotiated separately at a later date. This contract amount is $496,504.00. A breakdown of this amount is cited in Exhibit "A" of the referenced contract and is attached herein. The School Board attorney has approved this contract. A copy of the contract is available for review at the Construction Services Department. Funds for this project are available in the capital budget account.

49. APPROVAL OF SUPERINTENDENT'S FINANCIAL REPORT FOR PERIOD ENDING MARCH 31, 2007Description
The first page of the Superintendent's Financial Report is a combination of all funds. It indicates the overall revenue growth from this time last year to now is 12.43%, while expenditure growth has been 2%. In that the financial statement is of all funds, the Capital Fund has the least amount spent. This is what brings the appropriations to a 2% growth.
The second and third pages detail the individual funds based upon a cash basis. These cash basis statements support the detailed budget data that has been shared in prior School Board workshops.

Proposed revisions to #2.72, Policy Against Discrimination for Employees and Applicants and #2.71, Policy Against Discrimination for Students: The equity complaint process has been collapsed from four steps to three steps by using a committee approach to allow for more expeditious resolution of complaints.
Resolution: Therefore, resolution is made to revise the Policy Against Discrimination for Employees and Applicants as well as the Policy Against Discrimination for Students as proposed, to be advertised for a period of thirty (30) days, subject to review and approval by FDOE Office of Equity and Access. Revised policies will be submitted to FDOE Office of Equity and Access on July 31, 2007, with the current year's annual equity report.
